Do i need to play god of war 1 and 2 before 3?

The first 3 main games follow the same story, so to fully understand the story and all of its references, I would recommend playing the first and second game (in order) before playing the third. I would not say it is necessary, because it is an action-oriented game, and each part plays fine on its own.

What is the difference between god of war 1 2 and 3?
The basic gameplay stays the same, the difference is mostly in the weapon,magic enivronment and enemy variety. I recommend playing the first two games before the third, they're both great games on their own and they set up the story for the third game.
