Not necessarily, but there's no shooting, racing or wars, which are considered staples of competitive “boy games”. In my long experience in the community a good number of Sim players are women or gay men. I've also encountered many straight guys but they are maybe more the creative or nerdy kind.

Unfortunately, the game does not feature any way to play with other people -- it is strictly a single player title. Of course, you can have a friend alongside you to help make decisions while you play, or you can pass the controller, but there are no built-in modes that support multiplayer.
