Does itunes backup save game data?

When I backup with iTunes on my PC, will it save app data, like game progress? Or if I have to restore the backup, will I be starting over in all my games? Game progress and other app data is saved in the backup. If you backup the device and then later restore that backup you should have your game state restored.
