3DS family hardware was officially discontinued on September 16, 2020. Nintendo Network services remain active in most regions; the Nintendo eShop officially shut down on March 27, 2023. The option to add credits for the 3DS has been removed as of late August 2022.

As of March 27, 2023 at 5:00 PM Pacific Time, it is no longer possible to make purchases in Nintendo eShop for the Wii U system and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. It is also no longer possible to download free content, including game demos.
