Who was before eggman?

In the earlier, Genesis-era games, he was mostly referred to as Dr. Ivo Robotnik. In the later games, he still retained this name, but was referred to often as Eggman or Dr. Eggman, obviously in reference to the shape of the villain.

Why does sonic call robotnik eggman?
Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik is the character's name from the original japanese Sonic the Hedgehog game series. When Sonic calls him Eggman it's also a reference to the egg-shape drones that Robotnik uses throughout the movie. Take that as an easter egg (pun intended).
