Is the 3080 worth it over the 3070? For the extra $200 or so, if you are looking for a machine to play games in 4k and be a creative workstation powerhouse, the RTX 3080 is worth it. But if you are going to be playing games at 1440p and maybe using some creative programs, the RTX 3070 is the way to go.

At 1440p, the 3080 doesn't give you that much of a performance boost to warrant the significant price difference. The 3070 will give you an excellent QHD experience. It is the better card for most people, especially if you don't want to take a dig at 4K gaming.

1080p. As you'd expect, at 1080p resolution both the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 perform exceptionally well. If you're only gaming at 1080p, it's difficult to recommend the 3080 over the 3070 given its (theoretically) 30% higher price tag—unless you're playing at very high refresh rates.

No surprise that the 3080 comes out on top, but the 3070 holds its own even in some 4K games. Being said, to get 60+ FPS in 4K you'll definitely want to go with the 3080, especially if you're going to be enabling ray tracing. With the 3070 it seems best to choose between either 4K or ray tracing.
